Defend Our Water: Save SB 373!
It took intense citizen pressure to pass SB 373, and we need to build that pressure again to preserve the improvements to water regulation gained in that bill. Act fast because this bill (HB 2574) seems fast tracked, with only one committee reference (House Judiciary). More

Rebecca Roth on Water Crisis Anniversary
I spent too much time last year being afraid. When my son Sid was born in August, I was relieved to count 10 fingers and 10 toes, but not all signs of health are so easy to see. It will be years before our family knows, for example, if the reproductive health of either of our kids has suffered at all because of the chemical spill. Water is the most important resource we have and it is essential to our children’s health. We’ve put down roots in our community but they need water. More

Cathy Kunkel on Water Crisis Anniversary
If there’s one thing we’ve learned from the water crisis it is that public pressure can help protect our water. Advocates for a Safe Water System is going to keep pushing for changes from the water company because its clear that the company is not going to make the necessary changes on its own. Keep up the pressure: Come out in January! More

Volunteers Needed: Puppets and the Water Crisis Anniversary
Join the Vandalia Collective - puppets in the street to tell the story of the Elk River chemical spill disaster and the chronic abuse of the land inflicted here and everywhere. We will be at the State Capitol and downtown Charleston on January 9 at 2 p.m. and joining other organizations during the Governor’s state of the state address on January 14, and again on January 17 for a massive day of legislature action. Coal Industry Would Like To Push & Poison Us Out of Here
When I first read this document 12 years ago, it infuriated me. Starting on page 13, the essay includes points that amount to a depopulation plan for southern West Virginia. I think it infuriates me even more now, after everything that’s happened since then. The latest: the January 9 “leak” into the Elk River of 10,000 gallons of a chemical used in coal prep plants from an uninspected, decrepit tank farm and the subsequent poisoning of the water supply of about 300,000 West Virginians, a water crisis that is still unfolding today, nearly a month later. Anita Wotiz, former WV native responds: I’m From West Virginia and I’ve Got Something to Say About the Chemical Spill
Having lived in West Virginia for 5 years and graduating (long ago) from Huntington High School, the state and its people are often in my thoughts and always in my heart. Last week I received an email from a friend of a friend who lives in West Virginia and was forwarding an article about the recent chemical spill. She commented that the article expressed many of her questions from the past 35 years she has lived in the state, but she had never felt the rage expressed by the author. More
