Update: 9 a.m. Monday March 1: Water Rule Public Hearing (HB 2389) Live Stream https://youtu.be/yoJSPoTyVVE After numerous requests on various fronts, a public hearing has finally been scheduled in the West Virginia House of Delegates this session—a hearing on HB 2389 “authorizing the Department of Environmental Protection to promulgate a legislative rule relating to requirements governing water quality standards.” The hearing will take place on Monday, March 1 at 9:00 a.m. This bill would alter the human health criteria, which determines how much of a toxin can be in our water before it harms our health. See this post from West Virginia Rivers for more information and a link to send an email to the House Judiciary Committee asking that they prioritize public health and reject these changes. Because access to the Capitol, and therefore access to democracy, is limited during this session, it is imperative that West Virginians participate in this public hearing to make their concerns known. To do so, please call the House Judiciary at 304-340-3252 before 4:00 p.m. on Friday, February 26. Information needed to register: name, email address, the entity you represent, whether you support or are opposed to the legislation, and your phone number. The Zoom link for the hearing will be posted on the House Committee on the Judiciary webpage before 9:00 a.m. Stand up for the health and safety of West Virginians. Clean water is a right. |
