Join Us September 19 for Our Monthly Membership Meeting
The third Tuesday of the month is approaching, and that means it is time for OVEC’s monthly member meeting. As we fight to defend our own homeland against the assaults of mountaintop removal coal mining and unconventional gas extraction—and the proposed “second petrochemical complex” for the Ohio River Valley—we know we aren’t the only people being hurt by extreme energy extraction.
This month, we will remember victims of recent extreme weather events. Mudslides in Sierra Leone killed hundreds. Hundreds of thousands of people have been suddenly displaced as a result of Mexico’s historic earthquake, Western U.S. wildfires, and devastating hurricanes Irma and Harvey. We will invite you to take a moment of silence to reflect on those who have lost their lives or lost everything else as a result of these climate-change disasters.
We will conduct this vigil in solidarity with the Campaign Nonviolence Week of Actions. Campaign Nonviolence is a long-term grassroots movement for a culture of peace and nonviolence free from war, poverty, racism, environmental destruction, and the epidemic of violence.
Join the event on Facebook and invite friends here. Contact keena@ohvec.org for more info on the monthly membership meeting.
