Plenty of Opportunities to Defend Our Water this Spring
We invite OVEC members and supporters living near Huntington to come out for the Tri-State Water Defense Group meeting, tomorrow, Saturday, May 12 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Gallaher Village Library. We will discuss some of our summer-time plans and our group’s next steps. Find details here, or contact robin@ohvec.org for more info.

One topic of discussion will be ways the tri-state group can plug into some upcoming events. But whether or not you come out tomorrow, we hope you will take part in some of these events:

May 14: WV Poor People’s Campaign Rally at the Capitol

The Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival is uniting tens of thousands of people across the country to challenge the evils of systemic racism, poverty, the war economy, ecological devastation, and the nation’s distorted morality.

May 19: The Fourth Annual Huntington Sustainability Fair takes place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Wild Ramp.  Join OVEC staff and volunteers in and around The Wild Ramp.

June 1-2: Water Justice Summit in Blacksburg, VA

This event is a leadership development, networking, and skills-building gathering for folks in Appalachia and the Southeast whose water is threatened by fossil fuel industries, faulty public infrastructure, and other concerns.

Childcare provided. If you are an OVEC member, or member of another Alliance for Appalachia member group, and need assistance to attend the event, please e-mail info@ohvec.org right away. No guarantees, but there may still be some funds available to help cover expenses associated with attending the event.

June 9: Tickets on sale now for Reflections on Sacred Actions for Earth, with West Virginian authors Denise Giardina and Ann Pancake.

June 16: Volunteer with OVEC to take part in the Ohio River Sweep

June 16: Volunteers wanted! Help Create Our Local Global Earth Exchange 2018

OVEC’s retired Executive Director Janet Keating is seeking volunteers and representatives of local progressive groups to help organize a local Global Earth Exchange event, which will take place in Huntington on the banks of the Ohio River—our orphaned, damaged place that needs our loving attention. If you want to help plan the event and/or attend it, please e-mail info@ohvec.org

June 23-25: Crack Open FERC.

If you are interested in attending with OVEC, e-mail info@ohvec.org.

June 30: Stream Monitoring Training: Watch Over Mountaineer Xpress Pipeline Construction
