On January 21, in the midst of a statewide snowstorm, around 200 people gathered for an event: Honor the Waters Candlelight Vigil. Outside the West Virginia State Capitol, alongside the Kanawha River, in sub-freezing temperatures and a beautiful snowfall, people stood together to honor and defend our water during a time of crisis. People across the nation and around the globe held solidarity vigils. More

OVEC ED Statement on Leak / Water Emergency
The Ohio Valley Environmental Coalition (OVEC) extends its concern to people and communities impacted by yesterday’s release of 4-methylcyclohexane methanol. More than a day and a half after people first noticed the odor that alerted officials to the leak, the smell still lingers near downtown Charleston, though, due to health-department-ordered shutdown of restaurants, there are few people downtown.
