A disarming and powerful new film shows the human stories from coal country – including stunning events that will either divide or unify a community, its coal workers and their families in the heart of the Appalachia.
Overburden will have its World Premiere on Friday, April 10, 2015 at 10:20 AM in Cinema 3 at Full Frame Documentary Film Festival in Durham, North Carolina. The film is screening in the NEW DOCS competition. A Q&A with Emmy-winning director Chad A. Stevens and the stars of the film will follow.
SYNOPSIS: After a mine explosion kills her brother, a pro-coal activist joins forces with a tree-hugging grandmother to take down the most dangerous coal company in the United States. Lorelei, fighting to stop mountaintop removal, launches a campaign to build wind farm. Betty, who lost her brother in the disaster, joins Lorelei’s fight to bring justice and economic diversity to the coalfields of Appalachia.
