The Martin County Project Team of Eastern Kentucky University's "Final Response " to the Petitioned Health Consultation on the Martin County (Kentucky) Coal Sludge Disaster authored by the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR)

ATSDR published their consultation concerning the potential impact to the health and environment of Martin County, KY after the 2000 coal slurry spill. ATSDR made no recommendations for action and said there was "no apparent health hazard." After studying the consultation, EKU's Dr. Stephanie McSpirit and Dr. Melissa Dieckmann, along with the project team of students, presented their concerns of ATSDR's report at a July 17, 2003 forum in Inez, KY. This final response is the culmination of those concerns. Recommendations to ATSDR are also included in the response.
