OVEC staffers joined with many of our friends from the Interfaith Global Climate Change Campaign and others at the "Blessing of Brother Sun, Sister Air Energy Project" on Potato Knob in Webster County. The service blessed the wind generator and solar panel project at the home of Todd Garland and Carol Warren, two of an ever-growing number of folks who are making the switch to truly clean energy. Its obvious we cant wait on the government to lead us into the new energy future. Folks like Carol and Todd are leading the way for us.

Keith McIntire of Savage Solar (304-644-2701) set up the solar and wind system for Carol and Todd. The system powers their entire household. Keith says even folks who live in hollers can get some power from wind with today's rooftop wind generators and storage batteries. Wind as low as 7 miles per hour can turn a turbine, and the differences between cool and hot air between a holler and a ridge top can help create micro-winds.

The solar panels at Carol's and Todd's.

Folks gather around the wind mill and recite the United Nations' Environmental Sabbath.*

The windmills' blades whirr quietly, the sweet sound of trees still standing, the sacred sound of one less mountain blasted to rubble, the wise sound of one less stream disappearing under tons of the former mountaintops.

Todd, center, and friends helping to welcome the new, sustainable and appropriate energy source.

Friends contemplate the windmill.
