Criminal Justice Reform Lobby Day

from American Friends Service Committee WV Economic Justice Project:

Dear supporters of criminal justice reform in WV,

Register for Criminal Justice Reform Lobby Day. We are thrilled that women from Recovery Point in Charleston and students from Concord University will be with us in force. If you are interested in attending Lobby Day but need help setting up legislative meetings, or have questions generally, please contact LShepherd@afsc.org.  We want to make everyone’s attendance easy, and worthwhile!

Please stand with the incarcerated, formerly incarcerated, people struggling with addiction, and their families in the call for criminal justice reform in West Virginia. Together we will ask our legislators to be SMART on crime, to invest in people not prisons, and to listen to formerly incarcerated people when they say, “I am more than my conviction.”

This session we are advocating for:

-Bail reform

-State IDs for people leaving prison (support HB 2727)

-Support for adult education programs in prisons

-Pay raises for corrections officers

-No more mandatory minimums (oppose SB 73)

-Alternative sentencing

Schedule of events:

10:30am Press Conference in little rotunda East (outside Attorney General’s office)
