July 4, 5: The annual Mountain Keepers Music Festival will be held at Kayford Mountain's Stanley Heirs Park . This concert is the premier music festival that celebrates environmental justice in southern West Virginia. The two day event will feature local and regional musicians playing a variety of bluegrass, gospel, country, rock, jam and old time music, as well as a pot-luck meal. This is a free concert that will celebrate Appalachian life and attendees are encouraged to bring a covered dish.

The festival will feature many emerging artists who celebrate their homes and heritage.

Stanley Heirs Park is located near Dawes, WV, which is about 35
minutes south of Charleston off of Interstate 64.  For more

There is a potluck Saturday afternoon so please bring a dish to share.
There is also free camping available on both Friday and Saturday nights, but music doesn't start until Saturday afternoon. Bring camping supplies, water, and snacks if you plan on staying.

This is a drug and alcohol free event.  This is a free concert, but donations are welcome and appreciated, please bring your checkbook.  This Festival is sponsored by the Keepers of the Mountains Foundation, Ohio Valley Environmental Coalition, and Student Environmental Action Coalition.

Directions to Kayford Mountain: 

Take I-77 to exit 79 (Sharon/Cabin Creek Road)
Go 7 1/2 miles to the "Y" at Leewood and take the right fork
Go 3 1/2 to 4 more miles and come to blacktop and dirt
At the left hand corner, take the one-lane bridge across the creek
Stay on this road for 1 1/2 to 2 miles and go right up the hill.
Follow the guard rails to the end where you will come to a large white rock and a fork in the road

Join OVEC members and allies the second Saturday of each month at 2 p.m. at the Southern WV Community and Technical College, Williamson Campus. July 24-27: On the last weekend of July 2009, the grounds of Covenant Village (a 405-acre camp outside of Flintstone, MD) will play host to the Common Ground festival, a diverse musical experience, bringing all kinds of performers from Maryland, Pennsylvania, and the Virginias together with guests of all ages in a family friendly environment.

Join us on Martin's Mountain. Bring your friends, or your group, or just find friends here. There will be music all day, on two stages, including an open-mic, so bring your instruments! Although we are just off of I-68 and the grounds are fully furnished, we are still deep in nature. Take advantage of the skill sessions to learn about edible plant identification; home, urban and square-foot gardening; sustainable home and business practices; or skip the sessions and just rock out!
