Urgent: Fax or
Call Today for Coal River Mountain
Massey Energy has begun blasting on
Coal
River Mountain! Nearby residents are
calling for
a commercial wind farm on this mountain, instead of
the permanent destruction resulting from mountaintop removal.
Studies show, that in the long run, the wind farm would
provide far more tax revenue to local government and far more
permanent jobs than would mountaintop removal. The wind potential
only exists as long as the mountain remains intact, at full
elevation.
Please take action to stop the blasting!
Please fax President Obama today at 202-456-2461. Implore
him to direct his agencies, and to use his influence with West Virginia
politicians, to stop the destruction of Coal River Mountain immediately.
If you'd rather, you can call in your comments to 202-456-1414, but faxes
are preferable, as you can be certain your comments are recorded just as
you made them.

Another Chance
to See Mountain Top Removal on WV PBS
Nov. 2: 8 p.m. Haw River
Film's feature documentary
Mountain Top Removal,
directed by Michael C O'Connell,
will be re-broadcast on West
Virginia PBS digital channel 2. This
broadcast is timely, as the
Raleigh County school board
recently voted to move for approval for building a new school to
replace
Marsh Fork Elementary in the Coal River Valley.
West Virginia resident and grandfather
Ed Wiley and
Marsh
Fork Elementary are central characters in the film.
Underwriting for the film's
national PBS distribution was provided in part by
OVEC. In April of 2008 Mountain Top Removal received the
Reel Current award form Al Gore at the Nashville Film Festival.
