Maria Gunnoe to Testify at Senate Hearing
OVEC community organizer
Maria Gunnoe will be one of the people testifying at
the
June 25 hearing on mountaintop removal practices called by U.S.
Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD), the Chairman of the Senate Environment and
Public Works Water and Wildlife Subcommittee. The hearing
entitled, "The Impacts of Mountaintop Removal Coal
Mining on Water Quality in Appalachia,"
is at 3:30 p.m.
on Thursday, June 25 in Room 406 of the
Dirksen Senate Office Building, Capitol Hill, Washington, D.C. If
you can make it, arrive early in order to secure a seat.
If you can't make it,
please consider
donating to OVEC to help cover the costs of sending a couple of
people to DC to support Maria.

11: Worldwide Premier of Coal Country at the LaBelle Theatre
Please come out at 7 p.m. on July 11 to celebrate the completion of
Mari-Lyn Evans’s and Phyllis Geller’s film
Coal Country. Attend the world-wide premier at the
LaBelle Theatre / South Charleston Museum, 311 D Street, South
Charleston. OVEC board member Chuck Nelson, Coal River Mountain
Watch's Judy Bonds, former Congressman Ken Hechler, country music
star Kathy Mattea and many coalfield residents you may know are
featured in this film.
Mattea and other musicians
whose music is featured in the movie are scheduled to be at the premier.
We hope you can come out to make this a really fun celebration.
