Stop Secret Money in Elections - Contact your legislators! 

 

As you may know, there has been a recent lawsuit challenging WV's 527 disclosure law, which OVEC and other organizations helped to pass in 2005. This is the law that requires groups who are spending large amounts of money to influence our elections to disclose who they are. It forced Don Blankenship to stop hiding behind "For the Sake of the Kids" and instead say "Paid for by Don Blankenship." Due to Judge Faber's recent ruling, the law has been partially overturned. We have just learned that our coalition and other concerned citizens have succeeded in pressuring Governor Manchin to place the matter on the Special Session agenda, which begins tonight (June 24). Supporters of the law feel it can be fixed by additional clarifying legislation. Please contact your Senators and Delegate right away and ask them to support strengthening the 527 disclosure law and public campaign financing:
